On this International Women’s Day, we are delighted to welcome back an inspiring, passionate and exemplary author and educational consultant, who has achieved so much for children’s literature and whose books continue to inform, engage and empower our younger generation. Following her first fabulous title in the Australia Remembers series (see our campaign for Anzac Day, Remembrance Day & War Memorials) it is a pleasure to have Allison Paterson return with the sequel; Customs and Traditions of the Australian Defence Force. We did say this; ‘Australia Remembers (Book 1) truly stands out like one of the tallest poppies in its field.’ Australia Remembers 2 is yet another resource that emanates an undeniable vibrancy, radiating with interactivity and facts to absorb.

About the Author

Allison Paterson is the author of the 2016 ABIA and CBCA longlisted title Anzac Sons: Five Brothers on the Western Front, the children’s version of the adult non-fiction title Anzac Sons: the Story of Five Brothers in the War to End All Wars. She has written other children’s books, Granny’s Place and Shearing Time, with another; I Wonder, being released this August.

Allison was a teacher-librarian for over twenty years and has reviewed children’s literature for Magpies Magazine for almost as long. She was a recipient of a 2017 May Gibbs Children’s Literature Trust Creative Time Fellowship. The resulting young adult manuscript Follow After Me was published in 2019 (see our campaign for Follow After Me). Allison now works full-time as a writer and presenter in schools.

What a fabulous series answering all those difficult questions about our defence forces – for adults and kids. I would have loved these books when I was in the classroom and find them just as useful now as a grandparent.
