Karen Hendriks, author of Go Away, Foxy Foxy; a fun and empowering story on working together to solve a problem, shares her teaching expertise on how to develop effective language and comprehension skills when utilising her book. We have a handy guide with tips and examples for adults wanting to teach children about books and literacy. Thanks, Karen! x

We all know it’s important to read to young children and that a picture book is a powerful tool for promoting children’s language development. Between the ages of one and five, children are learning new words every day. To be able to do this a child needs exposure to language and the perfect way to do this is with conversation and the shared reading of a picture book.

When reading Go Away, Foxy Foxy with your child, encourage your child to participate, and most of all have fun. That’s the most important thing. All the rest is just the icing on the cake.
