Did you know that hats can have an effect on our moods, and even help alter our abilities in certain situations? Author Ellie Royce is at the top of her (writing) game with her fascination for hats in this brand new series for junior readers aged five to eight, brimming with fun, adventure, and real-life problems to solve. Avery’s Hat-Tastic Adventures begins with How Does a Hat Save the Day?, a lively story that is suitably covered with themes of kindness, sacrifice, friendship and community. About the Author
Ellie Royce was born in Adelaide, South Australia and she’s been telling stories ever since.
Although she spent over ten years crafting nonfiction articles for magazines, she finally realised her real love was writing the stories for young people that blossom in her imagination. Ellie is the author of six books, five of which are for children.
​Two middle grade novels “the Letterbooks” were published in 2008 with ABC Books. Her first picture book “Lucas and Jack” was published in 2014. “Auntie Uncle: Drag Queen Hero” Ellie’s second picture book came out in April 2020. “Frizzle and Me” is Ellie’s newest picture book, out in June 2021.
​Ellie truly believes in the magic and power of stories to change the world for the better, so she writes and reads them all the time (quite often when she should be doing other things!). Recently she’s also added podcasting and indie publishing under the imprint We Are All Made of Stories to her life, because they’re such a great medium for sharing even more stories.
​Ellie lives on Gumbanynggir Country in Northern New South Wales Australia and plans to keep writing, sharing and publishing visionary stories for kids and young adults forever.

Some fun facts about Ellie Royce!
Well, I love beanies, or wool hats, I love to knit them from all kinds of crazy coloured left over wool that I buy from op-shops.
Sun hats of all kinds, very important in Australia!
I have a beautiful blue 1920’s style hat that I love, and a floppy purple one, just like the one Avery wears in book 2 of the series.

I love growing veggies and herbs in my garden, but my favourite thing is the way it smells, especially as the sun goes down, drawing out all the scents of earth, flowers, and green growing things. It’s magical.

Oooh, lots of bright bits and bobs, flappy fringy things, shiny, sparkly things, a good pair of gumboots…
and of course- a hat!

My studio looks out over the garden, so that’s always my “go to” space, but I also write at the kitchen table by the fire when it’s really cold, or I have something in the oven. It’s pretty nice writing to the accompanying smells of baking bread!
